How to Create QR Codes with Limited Scans

Created on 11 August, 2024Tutorial • 1 minutes read

A QR code with limited scans is a specialized type of QR code designed to expire or deactivate after being scanned a specific number of times. Unlike standard QR codes, which can be scanned an unlimited number of times, limited-scan QR codes are programmed to have a set number of allowable scans. Once this threshold is reached, the QR code becomes inactive, rendering it unusable for further scans. This feature is particularly useful for scenarios where controlled access or security is a priority.

These QR codes are typically dynamic, meaning that the information linked to the QR code can be updated or modified even after the code has been printed or distributed. This flexibility, combined with the ability to limit scans, makes them a powerful tool for businesses looking to manage access to content, offers, or events.

Here are the steps to create a QR code that expires after limited scans using QrPathway.

1) First, you must create a Dynamic Qr code, follow the steps in the clicking this link to create one, or skip it if you already have one created.

2) Find the short link that you used to create your QrCode with. You can do so by going into the links tab, or by going into the "saved qr codes" tab, then clicking on the "pencil" icon right beside your qr code link.

3) In the short link settings, click on the "temporary url" section.

4) "pageviews limit": fill that field with the amount of scans you would like the link/qr code to expire.

"Expiration URL": fill this field with the url you would like to redirect users to once the             scan limit is reached. If left empty, they will be redirected to qrpathway.com

5) Save your changes by clicking "Update"
